Established in the 1960s, Philadelphia Boys Choir & Chorale’s achievements include world tours, recordings with internationally renowned orchestras and soloists such as Luciano Pavarotti, television appearances and praise from critics and audiences worldwide. PBCC continues to break through the most rigid social, political and cultural barriers as America’s “Ambassadors of Song.”

Under Artistic Director Jeffrey R. Smith, PBCC maintains an extensive concert schedule throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, as well as an illustrious international touring program. Recent engagements include performances at Carnegie Hall, the Kimmel Center and the Academy of Music. Recent collaborations include Hugh Jackman and the Philadelphia Orchestra, Peter Nero and the Philly POPS, Pennsylvania Ballet, Opera Company Philadelphia, Curtis Institute, VoxAmadeus and Chamber Orchestra Philadelphia and many others. Appearances on national television include Good Morning America, Saturday Night Live and The Today Show

PBCC recently moved into a $2 million facility, thereby vastly expanding its ability to add new programs promoting the joy of singing to boys and girls in the Philadelphia region.

Since 1968, PBCC has appeared in over 66 countries on 6 continents. Their first trip around the world was in 1977.  The choir was one of the first to make a historic trip to Cuba and has visited China three times. During a recent tour to Argentina and Uruguay, the choir received standing ovations at every concert. In 2008, the choir performed at two prestigious summer festivals: Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Germany and the Granada Festival in Spain. In 2011, PBCC performed at the Grand Teton Festival and in 2012, the boys in red participated in the Pažaislis Music Festival in Lithuania.

An alumnus of the Philadelphia Boys Choir & Chorale, Jeffrey R. Smith stepped into the position of PBCC Artistic Director in 2004 and has since led the choir on concert tours throughout North America, South America, Europe and Asia. Under his direction, the choir has performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Pennsylvania Ballet, Peter Nero and the Philly POPS, Opera Philadelphia and the Curtis Institute. Recent concert venues include Philadelphia’s own Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, Academy of Music and Carnegie Hall in New York City. Maestro Smith has led PBCC on local and national television, too, including five consecutive annual appearances on Good Morning America. Many political dignitaries have been an audience to the choir, including ambassadors both foreign and domestic, as well as prime ministers and former president Barack Obama. Smith is a 1999 summa cum laude graduate of Ithaca College with a Bachelor of Music in Composition. His original compositions and vocal/instrumental arrangements have been performed by various ensembles throughout the country, including the Toledo Symphony, York Theatre (NYC), Ocean City Pops and Philly POPS. As a much in-demand pianist, Smith has played with the Philadelphia Orchestra, New Jersey Symphony, Philly POPS and for several shows on and Off-Broadway. He is also assistant conductor for the Philly POPS.
