OVERVIEW

Ballet Giselle – A story of love and forgiveness. There may be no more powerful energy than love, and human selflessness is rooted in it as well. It can neutralize all grudges and hatreds. For love, we Live and Die. “Love is the greatest energy of the universe that God sent to us”.

Act 1

Ballet Giselle is a romantic story about pure love and betrayal; Count Albrecht’s deception and Giselle’s gullibility. Giselle was beautiful, graceful and loved to dance. Her beauty enchanted Albrecht.
On the day of the village’s wine festival, Albrecht, to flirt with Giselle, disguised himself as a farmer. Unaware of Albrecht’s noble background, Giselle was captivated by his enthusiasm and passion, unable to resist his flirtations. He gently made her believe in his promise of eternal love. His plans are thwarted when a hunting party arrives in the village. This includes the Duke of Courland and his beautiful daughter Bathilde, to whom Albrecht is engaged.
Giselle’s innocence caught Bathilde’s attention, leading to a gesture of goodwill where Bathilde gave her a necklace, unaware that they were engaged to the same man.
Hilarion, a deeply infatuated forester, discovered Albrecht’s disguise and, consumed by jealousy, revealed his true identity. Albrecht’s deception left Giselle heartbroken and desperate, longing for her life to come to an end.
Thus, Part 1 of the story ended tragically with Giselle’s untimely death

Act 2

Giselle was buried deep in the forest and transformed into a Willi, a representation of ghosts in Western European folklore. These willis were young girls who had died after being betrayed by their unfaithful lovers on the night before their wedding. Giselle became adopted and subservient to Myrtha, the Queen of the Willis.
Hilarion, overcome with grief, was discovered sobbing at Giselle’s grave. Myrtha, summoning the spirits of her maiden followers, haunted the forest, luring unsuspecting passers-by into a dance until exhaustion claimed their lives before dawn. Tragically, Hilarion danced to his death.
Filled with remorse, Albrecht wept at Giselle’s grave, delving into the realms of memory, oscillating between dream and reality. In the dimness, Giselle’s shadow appeared before him. Despite Albrecht’s plea for forgiveness, the Queen adamantly refused to grant it, catching him within the dancing circle. However, Giselle emerged and interceded on his behalf, protecting him and joining him in a dance that continued throughout the night. Despite being deceived by Albrecht, Giselle’s love for him remained, helping him survive until dawn. It was then that the willis lost their strength and were unable to harm him.
As dawn broke, Giselle scattered farewell flowers and vanished into her tomb, leaving Albrecht to grieve alone. Saved from death by the love of the girl he had betrayed, Albrecht was forever marked by the profound impact of their tragic love story.
